Louisiana is supported by a robust aviation system that includes 68 public-use airports and two public-use heliports. They range in size from Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport, which offers nonstop service to over 50 destinations on 16 airlines, to small general aviation airports that support recreational flying and flight training. Louisiana’s airports support a variety of uses and activities, from commercial aviation, to flight training and education, to business aircraft operations.
Recognizing the vital role that aviation plays in supporting the state, DOTD initiated the development of the Louisiana Aviation System Plan (LASP). The LASP identifies the needs of and provides a guidebook for the future development of the state’s aviation system. The plan will include the development of goals, objectives, and performance measures, an inventory of existing facilities, a deep dive into current industries and trends, an analysis of existing and future system performance, and cost estimates and recommendations for the development of the aviation system over the next 30 years.
